Located at 1425 E. 2nd Street in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico (Map), thirty-two 1-bedroom, unfurnished Rural Development 515 apartments, in which a wheel chair can enter and navigate, and three of which are designated wheel chair accessible apartments.  All apartments have electric ranges, refrigerators, air conditioning, ceiling fans and fenced front yards.  The complex is nicely landscaped with trees, shrubs and grass and sits on a bluff above the beautiful Rio Grande river with a view of the majestic Caballo mountains.  A full-time maintenance staff takes care of the apartments and grounds maintaining a high standard of excellence.  There are laundry facilities, a soda machine and community center (where you will find books, puzzles, cards and games and a television with a VCR) on the premises.  This complex has a meal site which serves lunch Monday through Friday and where bingo games are conducted two times a week.

Located approximately two miles from downtown Truth or Consequences, where you will find churches, banks, beauty shops, barbers, restaurants, movie rentals, post office, groceries, drug store, shops, lawyers and hot mineral bath houses.  Also, nearby are the the Community Theatre, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (foster grandparent, senior companion and food share), Senior Citizens Program (meal site, home care services and home delivered meals), Senior Joint Office on Aging, City Library, bowling center and golf course.  Approximately five miles away is the Elephant Butte Lake State Park and Elephant Butte Lake for picnicking, camping, fishing, swimming, jet skiing, and boating fun.

Eligibility: Over 62 years of age, handicapped or disabled (as defined by social security disability).  Annual adjusted income in the low and very low income range and you must completely fill-out, sign and submit an application with copies of all household members' Birth Certificates, Social Security cards, marriage license or divorce papers and proof of any and all income.  Social Security recipients must provide copy of award letter.  This places you on the waiting list.  You can download the application.  Note, when using Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can fill out the form and print it, but the information will not be saved -- it saves only the blank form.

Waiting List:  Placement on the waiting list is by family composition date and time of receipt of a fully completed application.

Rent Calculation:  Thirty percent (30%) of your monthly adjusted income.

Utilities:  You pay gas and electric.  The City Electric Department can be contacted regarding any required deposits (505) 894-6671.  The Housing Authority reads its own gas meters and bills you for the same, thus, no deposit is required for gas services.  A utility allowance is factored in the rent calculation.

Security Deposits:  $200.00.  There is no financial assistance for security deposits and it is the sole responsibility of the tenant.

Pet Deposit:  $150.00 ($100 refundable) (Pets only under 25 pounds and you must furnish the Housing Authority with a copy of current vaccination records and proof of a city license).  There is no financial assistance for pet deposits.
